I decided to pick up Phoenix Wright again. Finished all of the original game tonight and unlocked the new add on case that was included with the DS version. I've just started the new case, but the original game is all done, so I solved the backstory and everything.
slwatson once mentioned that comedy that include an edge of drama tend to be more fleshed out than something that leans more to one side than the other. She was comparing Red Dwarf to Mystery Science Theater 3000, but it holds up well in Phoenix Wright too. What starts out as a funny, goofy parody of the legal system slowly grows to a still funny but fairly dark series of stories.
It's so refreshing compaired to many other games, where either the plot is a series of throw away gags with no point or a nasty angst pit with not even the dimmest ray of sunshine. The amusing thing is that I think Phoenix Wright has one of the most twisted and downright creepy plots in the history of video games and yet is able to remain completely insane.
This is what's wrong with video game plots today. D:
