Mom and I couldn't sleep last night, so we ended up trying to find something on TV at 3am.

CablePulse 24 has this overnight program called Rewind, which features reruns old CITY TV newscasts. Why? I have no idea, but it's such a trip. Last night was the evening news for August 6th, 1985. Over 20 years old!

Top news stories included a detailed discussion of what would happen if nuclear war between the US and USSR broke out and a bomb was dropped on Toronto. There was also a warning that an electrical short caused a local air raid siren to go off (I can't remember the location of the siren) and that "No, the Russians aren't coming". I didn't even know we had sirens during the Cold War.

The 2 day 1985 Baseball Strike was discussed, as was reaction to the potential of the Jays losing a season. Nobody talks about the Jays anymore.

Much amusment came from mentions of the Forum and the Exhibition Stadium. The Forum was an outdoor concert venue with a theatre-in-the-round. It was later leveled to make room for the Molson Amphitheatre. Exhibition Stadium was a large Stadium across the street from Ontario Place, on the Canadian National Exhibition grounds. The Jays and the Agros used to play there, years ago. It was leveled to build a parking lot and the Jays and Agros moved down to the waterfront to the then shiney and new Skydome. If I recall correctly, you can see bits of the Ex-Stadium on the Genesis music video "Throwing It All Away" and in one of the episodes of Four on the Floor.

Completely unrelated note: After I finish my current tape of PoG, I will be dumping over my copies of Four on the Floor at my sister's request.
