Tis the season to give DVDs...
Dec. 25th, 2005 10:03 amRachie is home sickies from church. For Christmas, Santa gave her a sore throat.
For as long as I can remember, videos have been a major part of Christmas in my household. I know that some people consider it a bit of a cheat; why get something so... common like a DVD (or VHS back in the day) when you can get something flashier or more "special"? Heh. Christmas to me is a crap load of DVDs. We are a media family, if we are poor. A DVD costs less than a trip to the movies for us and growing up, we were often told "wait for it to come out on video". So we do and often wait all the way until Christmas. It's a bloody war over who calls dibs over the DVD player.
Floating around the house now are boxed sets of Lois and Clark, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Azumanga Daioh, Sailor Moon SuperS, Murder She Wrote, Knight Rider, CSI... most of these are our "big gifts" for the year and frankly, we like it that way. If you could see the excitement in my mother's face when she unwrapped that Murder She Wrote boxed set, you'd toss away your high ticket items.
We don't have much time to watch TV reruns anymore, so DVDs are our saving grace. We aim to please here and we're all fangirls anyway. Although, the next time a CSI 'shipping fight breaks out at the dinner table, I'm going to be hiding in the washroom.
Coolest gifts of this year, DVDs aside, are a Tails action figure, a bottle of Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab perfume oil, and my CBC t-shirt.
The action figure I've honestly wanted since around 1999. Being the shy person I was, I didn't want to buy the figure then and they sold out. The figures were later rereleased for Sonic X and my mom managed to find one. Funny thing is that she didn't know the story behind that. She thought it would be a cute little present. Tails has been following me around all day now.
Steff got me some paid LJ time, so I should remind her that I got a sketch book, which hopefully means FLUFF in the near future.
