Final marks are in. Still have a 4.0. Nobody surprised, nobody impressed, let's move on.

One day I'm just going to fail a class for the heck of it.

I coughed up some cash to raid the Toronto Star archives for Prisoners of Gravity info from the past. Oh my gosh...

The following is from the article "TVOntario Plans More 'Hard Stuff'" by Greg Quill, which was basically discussing a press release for TVOntario's new season of programming in 1989.

"*Prisoners of Gravity, in which comedian Green plays a disillusioned and mildly crazy scientist trapped in an alien space craft in orbit a mile or so above the earth. Enraged by the insanity he sees below, he uses humor, comic strips, books, video games and computers to instruct his young viewers in the physical, social and moral laws that govern humanity. Prisoners of Gravity starts Sept. 11."

Holy crap! It's proto-PoG! Let's rip this apart line by line for fun!

Prisoners of Gravity, in which comedian Green plays a disillusioned and mildly crazy scientist
This sounds a bit like the final series we got. Rick was disillusioned and fairly insane. But... scientist? I think that was carried over mostly to final series. Rick was well versed in physics, could crunch numbers with little effort, and discussed scientific theories at random. However, I don't think that the fact he was a "scientist" was stated upfront. The most we got was Nan-Cy saying that he had a bachelors in physics.

However, allow me a smug "I sorta told you so". Rick is a physicist in the IP&S universe. :B

I thought Reality 1 was from Earth. It was a general telecommunications satellite, but wasn't on any known directories or maps. I figured it was a spy satellite (PoG DID start during the cold war), unless I missed something REALLY major in the first season.

Enraged by the insanity he sees below
Rick was spooked more than enraged. He ran and only fought back when he was cornered.

he uses humor, comic strips, books, video games and computers
Computers? Nance! Nance! Nance! We love the Nano-Cybernetic 3000! <3

to instruct his young viewers in the physical, social and moral laws that govern humanity.
I'm randomly reminded of Rocketship 7.

The more I research, the more I find that this series started as a youth/family series. The broadcast times reflect this. The series originally aired at 7:30 pm. Then, suddenly in the middle season two it got pushed back to 10:30 pm and stayed between 9:30 pm and 12am for the following three seasons. The tone and look also became darker as time went on. This basiclly confirms my first exposure to the series was in season one or early season two. I remember it being in a youth programming block.

... "physical, social and moral laws"? Rick was a PIRATE BROADCASTER. Yep, totally within the laws of the world.

Geez, that press release urks me. Thank goodness the final product we got was the insane piece of media on acid that is Prisoners of Gravity. Judging from the reviews that followed the first episode, people were really not expecting what Askwith, Green and Richler coughed out in the end. o_O
