teddog: (Not very well pleased)

Okay, I'm sick of hearing how media should be "experimental" and "cutting edge" and "profitable" and other nonsense buzzwords that mean nothing. I'm sick of people chasing money and "the next big thing". Media should be fun, plain and simple.

Say it with me together:
MEDIA SHOULD BE FUN!

Damn right! I'm sick of bullshit that is over processed and pressed-fit into a tiny little box. We are not there to tell the audience what they want. Talking down to people is pointless. We are not better than our audience.

Media needs to be fun, all around. If you have fun making it, that will show in the final product. If we, the creators of media, enjoy the process, everything else will click into place. Things will be "experimental" and "cutting edge" as we love what we're dong and have the drive to reach out and try new things. And "profitable"? I'd rather watch a show where the people were clearly having an awesome time creating it than something where they were just there for the money.

This isn't to say that "fun" = slapped together media. My CD-ROM was a TOTAL pain in the ass. Countless hours spent on it and sleepless nights, only to see the code spit back up in my face. BUT I HAD FUN! That's what matters - that I enjoyed it.

I want more fun media! The assorted media that people overlook because we're reached the point were media is forced fed to the public. I want something different that is fun with characters and plot that I give a shit about. Angst and reality programming is over rated. If I want to escape, I'm going to damn well do it in a place and with people that I enjoy.

I'm sick of people telling me that media has dark/depressing/moody in order for it to have value and be art. Oh, wow. You made someone sad. Big freaking deal. One day I'm going to create a piece of media with unrestrained happiness and sunshine and insanity and nobody is going to stop me. 'Course, there may be a some darkness on the side, but we need balance. Sure, the critics will judge it as fluff, but at this point I could care less.

My only fear is that I'm going to reach the workforce and have this wacky drive for media beaten out of me by those looking for a quick buck. ._.
