teddog: (We can't stop here!)
Snowmageddon is my new favourite non-word. And we have the goverment to thank for it!

Could this be snow-mageddon?
Environment Canada is generally not prone to exaggeration unless there is deemed to be a real threat. We evaluate weather information and prediction models in a measured, scientific manner and couple that with overall impacts for significant events.

Mother Nature from time to time will line up a near perfect set of conditions that generate a series of significant events. That time appears to be the coming week or so for many portions of southern Ontario in the form of snow storms. There appears to the right balance of sufficiently cold air in place, with arctic highs to the north and a storm track along the lower Great Lakes. The term 'snow-mageddon' is not meant to alarm anyone or make light of the situation, but to highlight the cumulative effects and impacts that a series of snow storms can have on a wide region.

I love our national weather service. They started with these oddly arty weather warnings late last year or early this year. Can't remember when, but we were following them at the office during last winter's heavy snowfalls.

And I AM at the office today. We have the company Christmas party at 1pm over at the Westin, so a bunch of us tried to make it in. Only 2 cancelled. Free food and booze, plus I've never been in the Westin and I'm not going to turndown a chance to explore. I'm not sure, but I think comments about our party made it on the air over on Fan 590.

The start of it wasn't that bad - I left my apartment around 9:10 and it was light snow with a slight wind. There were problems with the subway, resulting in it stalling at stations (the Toronto subway goes above ground at several points). By the time I made it to King, it had reached blizzard levels. It was a very, very long walk to the waterfront, which was made possible by the good graces of my new hiking boots and Moxy Fruvous tunes on my MP3 player.

I have NO idea how long I'm going to stay after the party. o_O

And on a closing note, here be crack:

This is an official Transformers anime opening, from a Beast Wars spinoff. With lyrics like "Love is here!" and "Dream of love!"

It's died out now. That said, the snow was a bit freaky as it was coming down. I took pics! And pics of the rest of the day's adventures!

And today's special is Merry Christmas, Mr Bean, a very dorky British special that I loved growing up. This was back when Mr Bean was part of CBC's Friday night comedy lineup. I kinda miss those days, even if there weren't that many Mr Bean specials in the first place.
