I don't remember when I originally met Von Allan. I think it may have been 2006, and it was probably related to us both being fans of the Frantics (or maybe it was PoG related?). At the time, he was struggling to get his independent comic off the ground and we would fire back and forth comments over things like the price of books in Canada, the nature of the comics market when it came to graphic novels and how the media works on a local level.

Von's a nice guy. I mean, he actually gave me the time of day when I was talking about media, something that not many people offer to a 22 year old kid who may or maynot be completely out of her league.

Since then, he's made an amazing amount of progress on the business side, including having been featured in art shows and mentioned in the local media. He's completed a book that's a collection of short stories and writings and throughs on the process of writing and drawing.

The reason I mentioned this is, without going into details, this as all been carried out in the face of many challenges on the personal side of things. These past few years have been rough and the amount he and his family have overcome is impressive.

So, I'd encourage you to read the collection he's put together. There's a free download, if you're curious and want to read it first. If you enjoy what you see, buy a physical copy and send him some feedback!

Believe me, it will be appreciate more than you could ever imagine.
