teddog: (I'll kick your ass!)
It looks like the infection is finally reacting to treatment! I was going to murder someone otherwise, since the new drugs make me want to toss my cookies whenever I take them. But, yeah, I had to change the dressing on it today and from all appearances, there has been a marked improvement. The central area of the infection is still business as usual, sadly. Looks like heck. However, the area where the infection spread to recently is clearing and is much less irritated. There's still a long way to go.

Given the unusual nature and just darn rarity of what I had, does anyone know if the Canadian or Ontario government has some sort of system for helping with medical bills in oddball, emergency cases like this? We can handle the costs out of pocket, but I'm just wondering if I can get some of this for free. I'm still ticked about the $30 worth of high end penicillin that did nothing.

In other rants...

Toys R Us put out their special Holiday catalogue, proudly displaying the Playstation 3. Right. Like anyone is going to be able to FIND a Playstation 3 before March that isn't the store's display model. My 12 year old brother Taylor is whining for one. Now, the quickly way to solve this problem is to ask him what games he wants for it. Of course, while we have "OMG! PS3!!!" everywhere, he doesn't have the slightest idea WHAT you can actually play on the thing. We'd have a $660 paperweight.

So, I've been pushing him into the direction of "DS" or "maybe a Wii later on". Not that I'm a Nintendo whore, but I adore the DS. It fills me with a stupid glee. I'm not QUITE set on the Wii yet. Due to the nature of the controllers, I really want to try it first before buying. Oh, and have money to pay for it. The Sonic game for it is further down the line too, but there's always Twilight Princess for the time being.

Here's hoping the Sonic game is decent. It's being held back to March, but on the other hand it's not the rush job that Sonic The Hedgehog is going to be. It says something about a game series where I'm more interested now in the side games than main canon. Sigh.

Also, note to Walmart: building a massive supercentre out in the middle of Ancaster is helping NO ONE. Ancaster is in need of a swift kick in the pants, as I've ranted about many times before. However, building further out into the countryside to encourage growth or whatever? Not very smart.

My favourite spot to see this nonsense is Guelph. If you're never been to Guelph, it's a very rural city that's home to some brain melting stupidity. Heading up Highway 6, it's farmland, farmland, farmland... then suddenly gated communties! Well, Canadian ones; decorative gates, no guards. Then, as quick as the change came before: farmland, Guelph! What's the deal? So you can show how much richer you are because you can live out in the country? It's not even the country; it's a big box Shoppers Drug Mart down the street. Big boxes =/= country.

You know why I like Toronto? Stores downtown use existing space and change it around for their own use. There's a Staples on Yonge Street in Toronto like this. Adorable little office supples store, build over three stories in what used to be office space. It even has windows looking out to the street in front and into a secret sculpture garden in the back. If you're not Toronto, you get stuck having to drive out to the outskirts for anything. Good luck finding transit that'll get you there. No wonder everyone is whining about downtowns dieing off.

Take a look at Thunder Bay. There we have two, yes TWO downtowns falling apart so that people can build big stores elsewhere. This "elsewhere" is actually a no mans land of mostly dark and scary industral properties. Made attempting to shop in the middle of the night VERY odd when there was a rapist on the loose. At the same time, you had malls close to homes and people become dead because nobody went there. Mind you, I think the Victoriaville Centre was cursed, but there was really no reason for Northwood to end up the way it did.

Admittly, sometimes the Toronto style "cram it in" it doesn't work. Anyone else remember the Toys R Us at Yonge and Queen? Heehee... at the same time, there's a small Toys R Us up at Yonge and Eglinton that does pretty well. It's built in an underground mall complex that looks very small on the outside, but has several "big box" chain stores on the inside despite the fairly small footprint. It's also on a transit line. Go figure.
