teddog: (It's Too Early)
In a way, I like this week, but I don't too.

I've been coming home really late, about 11pm most night, yet I still have to wake up at 6am to get ready for work. So little sleep!

Monday, I stayed in town to hang out with Laura after work. All fine and good. Tuesday, mom collected my sorry butt from the office and we went up to Wonderland for the afternoon. That was alright, except I got soaked on the white water rafting ride and frozen my butt off on the way home. And then, yesterday, I got picked up at Kipling and went to my Grandfather's to visit. We didn't leave until after ten. Yep. Long days.

Part of my problem is my last week of work is the same week as mom's vacation. Yeah, I'm not getting a new contract. Once I am free from this employement, I will reveal the sorted tale. It'll make you wonder about your tax dollars and where they go. They went to my DVD recorder and book collection! It is rather messy, as the people I've told already know and understand. Again, rather not discuss at the moment.

On the up side, mom and I discussed some things last night, and we decided that the cross border shopping is going to start a touch early, kinda. Thing is that we have no grocery shopping time at home this weekend, so we're going to stop at Tops near Military Road on our way back from Ohio. Yay for Tops Markets. I'm so getting a Bonuscard, just for the sake of owning something so pointless for free.

Issue is I have to withdraw my money for the next two weekends tonight, since I offered to shell out for food if I can get Mighty Taco for lunch on Sunday. It really sucks that American and Canadian debit systems aren't interlinked, so it's cash or credit only. Gotta make a stop at the CIBC at the mall tonight before 7 and pick up some crap while I'm out.

I missed a change to grab Sonic Advance 3 on Monday, so I'm thinking of picking up the Sonic Double Pack. It includes Sonic Pinball Party, which is amazing; that game as a standalone cart was released only at Target in North America... and there's no Targets in Canada. It also happens to be a decent pinball game. Sonic Advance, while not the most complex or challenging game (*cough*Spinball*coughs*Blaze'sSideofRush*coughs*DamnSonic2forGameGear*cough*), it's tons of fun. And I don't own either, so that means that only Advance 2 and 3 are left. Funny thing is I bought Sonic Battle on a whim about 2 years ago and it turns out to be the rarest game out of the handhelds. After that is Advance 2, but ebay will fix that.

Also, I could reeeeeally go for a watermelon slushie right now.

And if you're really a fan, they sell shirts with their logo!

And here I thought that the 42 Cummer bus and Old Cummer station were bad!

OMG! I WANT IT NOW. Doesn't come out until next year, though.

Phoenix Wright is seriously the best game series being released right now. It's an adventure game that's mostly legal based, but includes science fiction and supernatural elements and, more importantly, makes them work together. On the surface, it's completely out to lunch, but some of the subtext is surprising.

It's set in a near future where the court system has been completely overhauled. The rise in crime forced the legal system to shorten all trials, even complex murder trials, to a span of 3 days. To keep the prisoner levels low, the death penalty is used more often than not. With more and more cases ending in a "guilty" verdict, one has to wonder about the state of the legal system.

You play as Phoenix Wright, a rookie attorney tossed into this strange legal world and finding himself facing cases that he can't seem to win. Along the way you meet up with a bunch of insane characters like the the Feys, a family who's ties to the legal community are more than a little unusual and Miles Edgeworth, a prosecutor obsessed with bringing the guilty to justice. What makes the game rather nice is that these quirks actually are key point plots and not window dressing. There's more going on that what we see and I really want the third game to be brought to North America. The major cases in that game are flashbacks to the ones mentioned in the first game.

Phoenix Wright was recommended to be because people found the nature of the plot and characters comparable to Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle. DOTT it's not, but it stands more than well enough on it's own. It's surreal, but believable. Are Miles and Phoenix an issue? How about Phoenix and Mia? Does it really matter? Nope, but it's funny.

Although, the older brother/younger sister relationship that Phoenix and Maya build is adorable. Screw the fandom shippers, I'd love to see stories about just those two running around and casing havoc. There's going to be a manga series starting soon that follows Phoenix and Maya, so I'm all excited for that. :)

Be warned at finding this game is a complete and total bitch. I think I bought the last copy in Hamilton last weekend after searching for SIX months for a copy. Used copies can go for higher than the retail price. There's high demand and low stock, but it's so worth it when you finally get it.
