teddog: (Why yes I do happen to be that darn good)
I forgot the big media release for the summer. Because I know there's one or two other people on my flist that are interested, here she is:

Animaniacs Volume 1!

I've have been waiting eagerly for it ever since the rumours about Warner Brothers evaluating it for release. Yeah, it's not the most well balanced series ever, ranging from amazing (the Warner kids, Slappy the Squirrel, Pinky and the Brain) to flat out dull (Goodfeathers, those hippos) to just plain surreal (What was the up with Chicken Boo, anyway?). Still, it's probably my favorite out to that pack of Warner Brothers cartoons from the 1990s.

Come oooon, we all watched them! Remember when Kids' WB started up? The only way to get that in Canada back then was through the speciality channels that you had to pay extra for. Once or twice a year, there was a free preview weekend and that was "Let's watch the wacky American cartoons!" time.

Believe me, at the time it was insanely hard to find some of those cartoons on Canadian television. I recall that back when Fox had the rights to things like Tiny Toons and Animaniacs, Global played them as well. Still, it took a long while before we saw the like of Earthworm Jim and Freakazoid and some of the odder series, Road Rovers for example, never made it up here.

Things are still wacky like that today. We get the heavy hitters in terms of what you see on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. Spongebob? Got it. Foster's? We're a season or so behind, but we have it. But Catscratch, Invader Zim, Space Ghost Coast to Coast? Nooooope. DVD only.

Blah. So buy goofy 1990s cartoons! Yaaay!
