Presenting: The Frantics Look At History
Feb. 22nd, 2006 12:20 amA lot of people complain that the old Frantic Times episode have dated humour. And they do, mostly because the shows were written in the 80s. Political references only last so long.
The Frantics Look At History doesn't suffer as much from this flaw, mostly because the humour is based around historical instead of current events. There's a few bits of old pop culture that work their way in - episode 8 mentions Knight Rider, for example - but it all works. It's hard to explain unless you give the series a spin. There's only 8 episodes and be warned: You WILL want more after you reach the end. It's that freakin' good. If the format and idea seem a little familar, you could read this as a forerunner for the TV series History Bites.
Note while the quality is NOT 100% for all the episodes, they are listenable. Episode 2 seems to be missing it's lead-in and episode 4 is missing the closing time and credits scenes. These aren't huge losses.
The Beginning (Unlike the other 7 episodes which follow the flow of time, this focuses on famous historical figures)
Age of the Dinosaurs to the Ancient Greeks
The Rise & Fall of the Roman Empire
The Dark Ages and the Time of Chivalry Through to the Renaissance
From the Time of Columbus to the Age of Cowboys
The Industrial Revolution and the Victorian Era
The 1900s
The Future
