Dec. 6th, 2005 12:58 pmI find it amusing that while some Americans have Columbine grilled into their skulls, many people I know fail to realize that today National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women or why it's on this select day. I say Canadians at least have the Americans tied in this case, at least in terms of school violence.
I had to explain last night that today is the anniversary of the École Polytechnique massacre. Damn, I remember when that first happened and I was only in grade one! That's heavy shit! Others might brush this off, but I still find the event greatly disturbing.
Well, any school shooting is greatly disturbing; my mother lived through the Centennial Secondary School shooting and still has trouble talking about it. But the idea that you might have been targeted because you were attending a post secondary school and just happen to be female is upsetting.
