Aug. 26th, 2005 07:44 pmWe went shopping for Katers birthday at Jackson Square. Here's the candy we found
- Apple Hi-Chews (or whatever they're called). It's so hard to find apple flavored candy and these are decent.
- Strawberry pocky with dried strawberries. These tasted a little like my triple-berry cereal. I prefer this strawberry pocky to the normal kind. The taste is more sharp.
- Caramel pocky. This was very bizarre. It doesn't taste like normal caramel candy, but more like a malty, caramel ice cream topping.
- Lucky Mini Almond. The not-quite pocky. This is made by Meiji and - people are going to get their panties in a knot here - the chocolate topping tastes better than Glico's. Now, I like Glico chocolate, but I've always found it bitter. :P
- A red bean rice cake. This was okay. The cake was a touch on the large side. It tasted good at first, but I was sick of it by the end. The rice part was fine, but the bean part reminded me too much of refried beans at the end.
We also saw cheesecake pocky, but we didn't buy it.
Oooo... and the Red Green repeat tonight I THINK was the first episode with Murray and Dwayne. The only episode I missed thus far in season 2 is "Missing", and I don't think the idiots appear in it. I love Murray and Dwayne. They're like the Red Green version of Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank, it Dr. F and Frank went into retail rather than mad science.
They only appear in season two, but you could argue that Murray was a forerunner for Dalton, who I also like because he's easily the most "evil" out of all the characters. Sure, Mike is a con-artist, but he's willing to reform. His problems are based on that he doesn't know any better. Dalton chooses to act the way he does, which makes it funny. I also think he's worse than Robert Stiles, the only pronounced villian in the whole canon. Stiles had a physical reason to be cranky. Dalton just has a superiority complex.
Hmm... all the characters I like are either geeks or jerks. My most favorite character is both a geek AND a jerk. Go figure. o_O
Interestingly enough, there was a curse word on the episode too; it sounded like Doc said "that damn machine". Damn is not a big "bomb" to drop, but Red Green is considered a family sitcom/show and this episode came out around 1992. Although, it should be noted that the Red Green Show did tone itself down over the course of the series.
If you have access to the Comedy Network reruns, I strongly recommend watching Monday night's rerun at 6pm. The episode is "Bear!!!", which was the favorite episode of the Red Green fan club I was in during grade 5. It's kinda childish and the plot is sorta a standard plot in general, but the way it plays out is priceless. It's also an easy episode to get into, since it doesn't rely too much on character knowledge to get the humour and it's a rare episode where the wraparound focuses on physical comedy. It's just darn good, so watch it!
