College Strike.
Feb. 17th, 2004 11:03 pmI've won another bet. Go me.
OPSEU workers are in a legal strike position. If nothing happens before March 3, the union is going to strike.
I for one, agree with them. The pay is frozen. I'm sorry, but if one thing bothers me it's money. You need to raise pay with the cost of living. YOU CAN'T FREEZE WAGES! Buzz word of the day: Working poor. I've seen it. It's a huge problem and it isn't pretty. Imagine working several jobs and still not being able to afford the basics. At the same time companies are cutting jobs and pay in order to keep costs down. I'm sorry, but with my limited business skills I can smell some rotten. You can't keep freezing and cutting and then turn around and wonder why people are barely making ends meet.
If you've lived a cozy and posh life, you don't know the pain that empty cupboards bring. It's worse when you know it's 3 days until payday.
Anywho, me thinks my family is cursed. In my father's first year at George Brown the teachers striked. In elementary school the care taking staff striked. In my first year of high school the teachers striked. Fun.
Right now I'm going to play it by ear. The res will remain open, but it's questionable if we'll have the caf for food. Angry, hungry and bored students are not the best thing to deal with. Depending on the homework given out, I might just fly home. Without classes or work, there's not much for me here other than working on my personal website and watching TV. Plus, after what happened on last Saturday, I haven't been able to sleep through the night.
Other fluff:
Coolest DVD packaging ever. It's a shame I'm not a fan.
