::squeaks (not squeal):: Katie!!! Jen!!! Do you remember Nancy's store? Oh man... that's a tale to tell...

So here's the story of Nance's Hallmark Store! ::cheers:: This either happened back in very early 2001 or 2002. It's fairly sure it was 2001, because my fandoms line up better with that date.

My dad is a old-school Disney fan. As such, we travel to Disney related places a lot. Our most common route down to Walt Disney World is to avoid the main roads and travel mostly through the mountians until we get past Washington DC.

The mountain roads are cool. They have the most wonderful smells. If you're big on road tripping there's nothing quite like waking up in your car on a brisk morning in the parking lot of a fast food joint. I can't stand eating a lot of junk food, but that smell... crisp mountian air, frost, gas, deep fired food... oh man. It's one of the most wonderful things you'll ever smell (they also remind me of a shattered Phil Collins CD for some reason). If you don't understand the ways of the road, then that will make little sense to you. It's a little like the smell on a cold morning when the odours from Ryan Hall are better than normal, but about a trillion times better.

There are few smells that surpass fast food early morning on a freezing cold morning. Among these are the general smell of Breezewood, a huge truck stop town in Pennsylvania. The smell of that place can't be explained. It's the smell of peace, freedom and childhood for me. General early morning smells in the southeast US are great too. And area surrounding Hamilton's airport. And The Great Escape at Lake George.

OKAY! Back on the topic of the Hallmark Store of the Nance. Early evening fast food smells are not quite up to par with their early morning counterparts. They lack that "clean and new" edge that the rising sun brings, but they're still nice. I kinda like them.

My family had stopped to eat at a fast food place located at a mini mall somewhere in Pennsylvania. It may have been in Philipsburg, but I can't remember. My sister's and I didn't feel hungry so we were relaxing out by the car. We were, of course, bored out of our little minds.

I was reading the signs of the local businesses at the mall. It was the standard fare, but one stood out. I clearly remember reading the sign outloud:
"Nancy's Hallmark"
Seeing my sisters and I all build up on each other's fandoms, that was the end to the boredom there. I can't remember all of the ideas we spun off of the sign, which is a shame :-D

I swear that sign's still on our way down to Disney World. If we're going there on spring break, I'm forcing dad to stop so I can have a picture of that sign. That would rule!
