Happy Day!
Oct. 5th, 2003 12:13 amI won't kid you when I say many parts of the Maniac Mansion fandom royally piss me off. However, there are days were I can only sit back, smile and think about how wonderful it is to be a part of it.
Today is one of those days.
I've just found the German fan film "Die Drei ??? und das Gruene Tentakel", which basically means "The Three ??? and The Green Tentacle", at least according to Google. From what I can tell, the tone of the film also follows the games faithfully, quickly changing from creepy to goofy and to just plain bizarre. Because the film is in German, I can't make out much of the plot, but the visual gags are parodies of scenes from the games and work in any language.
Click here to download the movie. It's a big file (over 20 mb) and you'll need the Div-X codec installed to play it.
The best scene out of the lot is probably the "Live and Let Die" musical sequence. That's one way to knock the power out. I don't know exactly why, but I burst out laughing during that scene. I think it's a combo of the music, the fades into and out of the different shots and the final payoff. Everything about it is wrong on so many different levels.
The cameo appearence by Dave, Syd and Bernard is a howl too. According to the opening, they'd be in their late 30s at least. Dave looks like Ben from Full Throttle. :-D
