Total coolness
Sep. 10th, 2004 02:23 pmOkay, if anyone on my friends list is in the multimedia program, I'd like to pass along an important message:
If you are interested in anything that isn't covered in class, for the love of all that's holy, PLEASE SPEAK UP! The profs are working with an idea that they can tailor sections of the course to meet the wants and needs of students. This was the idea Kevin mentioned in programming last year; tailoring the classes to the students interests.
Example: I want to study and possibly find some sort of career in the discussion and analysis of new media (if the CBC thing falls through). There's very little said about the topic anywhere. I mentioned this to Dean of all people, and he said that he'll give me a list of new media books I can read so I can explore my opinions and learn a bit more on the subject. The best part is that I get extra credit in his classes for my time spent reading.
Right now I have Being Digital by Nicholas Negroponte, a professor of Media Technology at MIT. I've also got Understanding Media by Marshall McLuhan, because I've always fancied myself a McLuhanist and not just because some of the McLuhans are family friends of ours.
So... YAY! I was having a crappy day before that. As much as I try to push off my father's death, it flares up every now and again. I disccused work issues with Rob (or Rick) at lunch today. His techie friends that were sitting with us were amazed that I knew so much about Canadian media culture. Such as, who owns what and what airs on which stations.
Me is happy again. :-D
