Why is it that no one like to write good, but pointless writing for the heck of it anymore? It seems that you need to write something with "deep" or "complex" meanings (read: ANGST) to qualify as anything close to a "writer".

And everyone on writing boards likes inflate their egos by saying how writers are smarter, wittier, cooler and just plain better than other people. If reminds me a lot the FF.N MiSTing community right before it fell apart.

I just want a little place where I can write my pointless nonsense, chat about how strange the writing process is, and be happy. ;_;

Does anyone want to do something like the TTPCTS RR thing again? Sure, a few of the "originals" have moved on, but that's not like that stopped us before.

...

Katie and Jen went to prom tonight. I got to film the car ride over. That was fun. Gosh, some high school students dress in some butt-ugly outfits.

I don't know if it's my place, but I have a therory on why there's so much angst out there.

For me at least, angst is a lot easier to write. Or if not angst, some tragedy/melodrama or somthing filled with violence. It's a way to vent that gets no one hurt, and no propety damaged. Maybe some psyches if you happen to post it some where, but that's about it (
If you don't count the charecters themselves, of course.)

And it's hard to write comedy without coming off being stupid. In someways, reading a unfunny comedy is worse than reading the sappiest/goreist melodrama. At least when a drama goes terribley wrong, it's funny sometimes. Others it's just really bad. I suppose it's the same way with a comedy, but it's rarer.

And on a slightly less pompous note: The round robin idea sounds vaugely fun, but would it be in Subreality?

Fandom is everyone's place. People who claim to own it deserve to be dragged out behind the old barn and shot with a water cannon. Don't feel scared to speak up and voice your own opinion. ;-)

I understand that angst has its own place in the world of writing and works very well for releasing steam, but I still feel that it shouldn't be the zenith of emotional content in writing. I find characters that live on angst are just plain boring. It's like listening to someone whine over and over about how awful their life is. It may make for an interesting "dark" character briefly, but unless there's another side to the character the act gets old fast.

I find that when I'm looking for stupid/bad fics to read (tis the B-Movie fan in me), I prefer a fic that has a mix of bad drama and bad comedy. In other words, a fic can't decide what genre it is.

Subreality RRs are easier to pull off. Typically, RRs end up as being slightly RPish and everyone wants their "own" characters and people can view canon characters differently. It's easier to control this in Subreality because... well... everyone has their own characters to begin first. But we can try a canon RR if you want. It couldn't hurt.
