Notes from the misadventure with [livejournal.com profile] pyat...

- Joel did reference Beanie and Cecil as being one of the influences for MST3K.

In short, "The SOL is sort of like Leakin Lena. Joel is like Beanie. Servo is like Captain Huff-n-Puff. Gypsy is sorta like Cecil, and Dishonest John is like Dr. Forrester-- there's even a Crow that shows up occasionally in the Crows nest!". Now, what that means for Ringworld, I don't know. I still like my "Larry Niven was doing heavy drugs." theory.

- The example of a deep and complex message forced into giant robot show that I was thinking of was Space Runaway Ideon.

I've never seen it, but like I said, they blow up the universe at the end.

- Here's that Daicon IV Wiki I mentioned. It's curious to see what parts of Western geek culture are mentioned.

On a side note, I just noticed that Stormbringer is parodied as Ashbringer in the Warcraft universe. o_O

- And finally, I looked into that Overdrawn at the Memory Bank thing. It's not a TVOntario production - it's by RSL Productions. However, there's a lot of Canadian actors in there, like a good chunk of the one shot characters of Street Legal and the kid who played Tommy in The Raccoons. One of the actors from Overdrawn also appeared in Running, which was a movie that I intended to use in the MST3K fanfic. This doesn't mean anything amazing, but it did make me laugh. But, alas, no major TVO connections.

Space Runaway Ideon looks awesome. I'd never heard of it.

Also, I think RSL is Canadian?

RSL appears to be Canadian. I did some footwork and it looks like it's now "Serendipity Point" and they're based in Toronto.

Also - Promo the robot!

That's going to haunt your nightmares for a while. Looking at the set in that photo though, though, I'm reminded of the original Reality 1 set. o_O

I'm not sure what's creepier - Promo or Bimbo.
