Thank you for posting these. I don't think I'd even discovered the show at this point, yet. I'll need to watch 'em to be sure. The extended opening with the tiny bit of stock footage from Wiley Post's pressure suit tests in the 30s rings a bell, but that could just be because Wiley Post is a minor hero of mine. :)
I also remember seeing the Abyss stuff, but that might have been elsewhere. Damn, I still think of "The Abyss" as a recent film. *is old*
The extended opening is used for a few more episodes until it's replaced with an opening that's STILL long, but shorter than this. I can't remember when it switches, but I think it's before 1990. I'll have to look through my discs... so, tomorrow at the earliest. Tonight is a raid night for me.
The Abyss clips are probably recycled from promotional kits. A lot of the clips are done this way early on. Heck, there's even a clip from Saturday Night At The Movies in there. Side note: I kinda miss when TVOntario had iconic shows and hosts like Elwy Yost. I still watch Saturday Night at the Movies because I'm usually on an evening raid on Warcraft and there's nothing else on TV and, well, Saturday Night usually has very good films. The current presentation, though, is really cold. Alas, this is just a side rant.
