teddog: (Tech! Stop Failing me!)

Good News/Bad News Time!

Bad News: I slept wrong and twisted my back, causing shooting pains from the small of my back up to my jaw. This caused the following to really wear me out faster than normal.

Good News: I've discovered the root of my computer problems...

Bad News: I am the proud owner of a failing hard drive.

Good News: Said hard drive is stable enough that I can work on it, but I have to be wary of how long I use it.

Bad News: Bills from last month left me with $18 at the end of the month

Good News: Buuuuut many of those bills were clearing off my one credit card (very low limit, I don't like debt), so I had space to buy replacement parts.

Bad News: This meant dragging my aching body across the city.

Good News: I got a replacement hard drive and an external hard drive so that I could use it now for backups and later for video work.

Bad News: I misplaced my System Restore discs.

Good News: I found them and then started backing up my hard drive.

Bad News: THE STUPID EXTERNAL DRIVE FAILED AFTER ONE HOUR OF USE. It randomly bricked while I was copying over a Prisoners of Gravity clip. Serious.

Now I have:

1 - Laptop with a slowly dying hard drive.
1 - Replacement hard drive collecting dust.
1 - Brick of an external drive that is so going back to the store tomorrow.
1 - Still tender back.

I need a hug.

Thanks. I really need to get a hot water bottle or, failing that, something for heat therapy. Drugs really don't cut it.

Next time we meet, I'll buy ya lunch, and even give non-virtual hugs, as required.

*sage nod*

It's cool about the lunch. Truth be told, I'm financially much better off than most people in terms of debt and whatnot, but I got hit with poorly laid out bills, partly my fault (I didn't take into account the deposit for hyrdo) and partly their fault (Bell really messed up my bills and billed me for two months at once).

You still owe me a drink, though. ;) Have you been over to C'est What yet? My boss keeps raving about it, but I think he goes for the booze.

Hug

I was at C'est What in 2000, and I did a live reading of an SF short story for an audience of more than a dozen! :)

Sure, name me a day. :) But not tomorrow or Thursday, since I'm working from home.
