Oh, for the love of...

There's going to be no Fromage 2006.

What the heck?

Fromage was my favorite "holiday special". At the end of the year, Ed the Sock would heckle the music videos that Much Music had been playing all year. However, Ed's relationship with Much has been turfed for a while and I guess this completes it. Fromage has gone the way of the Tree Toss.

So, we get Video on Trial instead. Except that Video on Trial was more like a bunch of fangirls writing a MSTing, while Fromage gave us rantings of a very bitter man who had reached the breaking point with pop culture.

See, when I went through my Much Music phase (heaven help me), we didn't have craploads of MTV castoffs. We had some decent programming. Okay, it was mostly crap, but we liked to convince ourselves there was some decent cultural content there. Look! French music videos... and The New Music! Everyone likes The New Music. Too Much 4 Much played all the "banned" videos and offered discussion on why they were banned. And Ed's Big Wham Bam... had no redeeming qualities whatsoever. However, the "we're getting cancelled" episode, where Ed plays the most random and odd videos he can find, was pretty darn funny.

And, of course, there was the Tree Toss, in which various CHUM-City employees would toss the company Christmas tree off of the roof, hoping to land it in the dumpster. Somehow, this was dragged into a big half hour event. It was silly and goofy, but it was, well, real.

I think when it gets to the point when you're nostalgic for the freakin' Electric Circus, things have changed too much. Eww, EC.
